Components of Ultrasonic Machining are:
- Power Supply
- Transducer
- Tool Holder (The shape of the tool holder should be canonical, cylindrical or modified cone.)
- Tool
- Abrasive Slur (Boron carbide (B4C) good in general, but expensive
– Silicon carbide (SiC) glass, germanium, ceramics
– Corundum (Al2O3)
– Diamond (used for rubies , etc)
There are certain parameters for the process of Ultrasonic Machining like frequency, feed froce and abrasive size etc. that are given as
- Frequency(f)==19-25 Hz.
- Feed Force(F)
- Amplitude of Vibration(a)==15-50 um.
- Feed Pressure(p)
- Abrasive Size==15-150 um.
- Contact area of the tool-A
Ultrasonic machining is very popular due to its various applications, it is used in
- Drilling
- Grinding
- Profiling
- Coining
- Welding Operation etc.
